Women's Bespoke Waistcoats in Hong Kong, Shaped to Your Figure

Hand-Crafted to Perfection  •  Premium Fabrics  •  28+ Years of Excellence

Our women's bespoke waistcoats are cut from a pattern drafted to your torso, bust and waist measurements, so the front lies flat, the points finish cleanly at the waistband and the back is shaped close to the body without restricting movement. You choose the cloth, neckline, buttons and lining; our master tailors in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, make it to fit you alone.

A waistcoat is the most quietly powerful piece in tailoring. Worn over a crisp shirt it looks composed and deliberate; under a jacket it completes a three-piece look with real presence; worn alone with wide trousers it feels modern and confident. The catch is fit. Ready-made waistcoats rarely account for the bust, so they gape at the buttons or ride up at the hem. Made to measure, a waistcoat defines the waist and gives the whole silhouette structure.

The Craft Behind a Bespoke Waistcoat

Since Michael Lalwani founded Hong Kong Manhattan Tailors in 1996, our family-run house of master tailors has made waistcoats as part of complete suits and as standalone statement pieces. The work begins with measurement and observation of your posture, shoulder line and the length of your torso, because a waistcoat that is even slightly too long or short loses its effect.

What we shape for you

  • Front length: set so the waistcoat meets the waistband of your trousers or skirt with no shirt showing between.
  • Bust and waist shaping: darts and seams placed for your figure so the buttons close smoothly with no pulling.
  • Neckline depth: a higher opening for a formal, buttoned-up look or a deeper V to frame a tie or open collar.
  • Back: in matching cloth for a waistcoat worn alone, or in lining with an adjustable strap for a cleaner fit under a jacket.

Cloth from Renowned Mills

Because a waistcoat uses less cloth than a jacket, it is a wonderful way to enjoy a special fabric. We work with Dormeuil, Scabal, Loro Piana, Holland & Sherry, Ermenegildo Zegna and Vitale Barberis Canonico; browse the collection on our fabrics page.

  • Worsted wool to match an existing suit or create a new three-piece.
  • Tweed and flannel for a heritage, country-inspired look.
  • Linen and cotton for light summer layering in Hong Kong's warmth.
  • Silk, velvet and evening cloths for black-tie and cocktail events.

Finish the inside and back with a colour from our lining collection, from discreet tonal shades to a bold contrast that only you will know is there.

Styles and Details

Single or double-breasted

A single-breasted waistcoat with five or six buttons is classic and versatile. A double-breasted style, with or without lapels, adds weight and a sense of occasion, and works beautifully on its own as a statement top.

Pockets, buttons and finishing

Choose welt pockets, a watch pocket, a pointed or straight hem, and a shawl or notch lapel if you want extra formality. Horn, metal and covered buttons are all available; see our suit button options to compare finishes.

The three-piece suit for women

Ordered with a matching jacket and trousers, a waistcoat turns a two-piece into a complete three-piece suit for women: a look that signals confidence at board meetings, weddings and formal dinners, and gives you three separate pieces to style independently. Pair your waistcoat with our bespoke women's trousers or order the full set as one of our women's custom suits. Our guide to bespoke waistcoats and three-piece suits covers styling in more detail.

From Consultation to Collection

  • Consultation: we discuss how you will wear the waistcoat, alone or as part of a suit, and the look you want.
  • Measurements: a full set of upper-body measurements, plus the rise of the trousers or skirt you will wear with it.
  • Fittings: we refine the length, the button line and the shaping until the waistcoat sits flat and close.
  • Final collection: pressed and ready to wear, with your pattern saved for future orders.

Hong Kong turnaround is fast; ask about timing for your date when you book. With your measurements on file, you can order additional women's bespoke waistcoats online, in new cloths, from anywhere.

Occasions and Clients

Our clients wear their waistcoats to board meetings and client presentations, as bridesmaids or wedding guests who prefer tailoring to a dress, at black-tie dinners in silk or velvet, and on relaxed weekends over a linen shirt. Visitors to Hong Kong often add one to a suit order during their stay, because it multiplies the ways every other piece can be worn.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a women's bespoke waistcoat cost in Hong Kong?

The price depends mainly on the cloth, from worsted wool to silk or velvet, and on details such as a double-breasted front, lapels, pockets and buttons. Ordering a waistcoat as part of a three-piece suit is also priced differently from a standalone piece. Visit our Tsim Sha Tsui shop or message us on WhatsApp for a quote.

Can a waistcoat be made to match a suit I already own?

If we made your suit, we can usually source the same cloth, subject to availability from the mill. For a suit made elsewhere, bring the jacket and trousers in and we will look for a close match in our fabric library, or suggest a complementary contrast cloth that looks intentional rather than mismatched.

How should a ladies waistcoat fit?

A well-fitted waistcoat lies flat against the body with no gaping between the buttons, follows the waist closely and is long enough to cover the waistband of your trousers or skirt. You should be able to sit, reach and breathe comfortably while wearing it. We refine all of this during your fittings.

Can I wear a bespoke waistcoat without a jacket?

Yes. Many women wear their waistcoat as a standalone top with wide-leg trousers or a skirt. For this, we usually recommend a back made in the same cloth as the front rather than lining, and a slightly deeper or shaped neckline, so the waistcoat looks complete and finished on its own.

How many fittings does a bespoke waistcoat need?

Every waistcoat is fitted before it is finished, and the number of fittings depends on the style and whether it is part of a full suit. Double-breasted or lapelled designs may need a little more refinement. We plan fittings around your schedule, and Hong Kong turnaround is fast, so ask about timing for your date.
