As a wedding suit tailor in Hong Kong, Manhattan Tailors cuts suits, tuxedos, waistcoats and shirts for grooms and their wedding parties from individual measurements. We guide you through cloth, colour and style in a personal consultation, refine the fit over fittings in our Tsim Sha Tsui atelier and coordinate every outfit so the whole party looks right together.
Your wedding is the most photographed day of your life. You will stand for hours, hug dozens of people, dance and sit through speeches, and every moment will be captured from every angle. A suit that fits in those conditions gives you one less thing to think about and lets you feel entirely yourself. Since Michael Lalwani founded our family-run house in 1996, our master tailors have dressed grooms from Hong Kong and around the world.
What Makes a Bespoke Wedding Suit Different
A bespoke wedding suit begins with a pattern drafted for your body, not a size on a rail. The cloth is hand-cut, the chest is built with canvas so the lapels roll softly in photographs and the jacket is refined at fittings until the collar sits against your shirt and the shoulders look natural. Our guide on how your suit should fit shows exactly what we check.
Designed around your day
We consider the venue, season, time of day and dress code, and we look at what your partner is wearing so the colours and formality complement each other.
Comfort through a long day
Wedding days are long and often warm, particularly in Hong Kong and at destination venues. We choose cloth weights and linings that breathe, cut the trousers with enough room in the seat and thigh for dancing, and set the jacket so you can raise your arms for photographs and embraces without the collar lifting. Small practical details, such as an inside pocket sized for the rings or your vows, make the day easier. If you are travelling to a destination wedding, tell us the climate so we can suggest cloth that looks sharp in the heat or keeps you warm in a cooler season.
Custom Wedding Suits for Groom: Styles and Colours
Classic and contemporary suits
Navy, charcoal and mid-grey remain timeless and can be worn again long after the wedding. Lighter blues, soft greys and linen blends suit daytime and beach ceremonies, while burgundy, green or textured cloths bring personality to evening receptions. Read our wedding suit colours guide for help matching colour to setting.
Tuxedos for black tie weddings
For evening and formal receptions, a dinner suit with shawl or peak lapels and silk facings is the most elegant option. See our custom tuxedos.
Three-piece suits and waistcoats
A waistcoat keeps the look sharp after the jackets come off for dancing. Explore our custom waistcoats to add one in matching or contrasting cloth.
Personal details
- Lapel shape and width, button stance and pocket style
- A lining in your wedding colours, or with a date or message hidden inside
- Monogrammed initials and a choice of horn or covered buttons
- Matching shirts, silk ties, bow ties and pocket squares
Fabrics for the Wedding Day
We cut wedding suits from cloth by Dormeuil, Scabal, Loro Piana, Holland & Sherry, Ermenegildo Zegna and Vitale Barberis Canonico. Lightweight wools breathe during a long day, wool, silk and linen blends suit outdoor summer weddings, and velvet or flannel adds richness for winter ceremonies. Our tailors bring the swatches to the light so you can see how each cloth will photograph.
Groomsmen Suits and the Wedding Party
Coordinated groomsmen suits give wedding photographs a polished, unified feel while still fitting each man individually. We can match cloth across the party and vary details, such as a waistcoat or tie colour, so the groom stands apart. Groomsmen who live overseas can be measured separately; see our groomsmen tailoring guide. Fathers of the couple are welcome too.
Your Wedding Suit Process
1. Consultation. We discuss your wedding, venue, colours and personal style, then choose cloth and details.
2. Measurements. Your tailor takes a full set of measurements and notes your posture and build.
3. Fittings. The suit is refined on your body until it looks and feels right.
4. Final collection. You try the finished suit with your shoes and shirt, and your measurements are saved for future orders.
Hong Kong turnaround is fast; ask about timing for your date, and contact us early if you are planning a destination wedding or visiting Hong Kong for a short stay. For a complete planning timeline, read our groom’s guide to wedding suits.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should I order my wedding suit?
Contact us as soon as your date is set. Hong Kong turnaround is fast, but allowing time for fittings removes stress and leaves room for small refinements. Share your wedding date when you book so we can plan consultation, measurements and fittings around it, including for groomsmen who live abroad.
What colour suit should a groom wear?
Navy, charcoal and grey are timeless and easy to wear again. Lighter blues and linen blends suit daytime and outdoor weddings, while a black or midnight navy tuxedo is right for evening black tie. Consider the venue, season and your partner's outfit. Our wedding suit colours guide explains each option in more detail.
Can you tailor suits for my groomsmen too?
Yes. We can match the cloth across the whole wedding party while fitting each man individually, and vary details such as waistcoats or tie colours so the groom stands out. Groomsmen who live outside Hong Kong can be measured at our trunk-show fittings in the USA, UK, Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Should I choose a suit or a tuxedo for my wedding?
It depends on the dress code and time of day. A tuxedo suits formal evening receptions and black tie invitations. A well-cut suit in navy, grey or a lighter cloth works for daytime, garden and beach ceremonies and is easier to wear again afterwards. Your tailor will help you decide during the consultation.
What should I bring to my wedding suit fitting?
Bring the shoes you will wear on the day, since they set the trouser length, plus any shirt, belt or accessories you already own. Photos of the venue, invitation and your partner's outfit colours help us guide cloth and style. If groomsmen are joining, let us know in advance so we can plan the appointment.
