How Long Does a Bespoke Suit Take in Hong Kong?

How Long Does a Bespoke Suit Take in Hong Kong?

One of the first questions clients ask at Manhattan Tailors is: how long will my suit take? The answer varies from 48 hours to six weeks depending on construction level, fabric availability and how many fittings are involved. Here is a clear breakdown of every timeline option.

Standard Bespoke Commission: 4–6 Weeks

A full bespoke commission — unique pattern drafted, basted shell fitting, hand-finished — takes four to six weeks. Week 1: consultation, measurements, fabric and style selection. Weeks 2–3: pattern drafting and basted shell. Week 3: first fitting and corrections. Weeks 4–5: suit re-cut and assembled. Week 5–6: final fitting and finishing. This produces the finest result and is recommended for all high-priority commissions.

If you are planning a wedding, important business event or building a core wardrobe, always allow the full timeline. Rushing the process compresses fitting time and limits the precision of adjustments.

Express Bespoke: 1–2 Weeks

For clients who cannot stay in Hong Kong for a standard commission, we offer a one-to-two-week express service. This involves a single basted fitting and one final fitting, with our team prioritising your garment. The result is very high quality — our master cutters have enormous experience compressing the timeline without compromising fit. A small express surcharge applies.

This option works particularly well for clients who visit Hong Kong regularly. We hold your pattern on file, so repeat orders can be completed even faster — sometimes within five to seven days.

Rush Orders: 48–72 Hours

Yes, it is possible to have a suit made in 48 to 72 hours in Hong Kong. This is semi-bespoke rather than full bespoke — there is no basted fitting, and construction relies on an experienced cutter producing a well-fitted result from measurements alone. For clients with average proportions, the result is excellent. For clients with significant fit challenges, we recommend at least one fitting.

Rush orders are popular with business travellers needing a replacement garment quickly. Fabric selection may be limited to in-stock cloth and a surcharge of 15–25% typically applies.

Tourists: Planning Your Visit

If you are visiting Hong Kong specifically for tailoring, we recommend a minimum five-day stay for one fitting, or seven to ten days for two fittings. Day 1: consultation and measurements. Day 3–4: basted fitting. Day 6–7: final fitting and collection. This gives our team time to work without rushing and ensures you leave with a properly fitted garment.

Repeat Clients: Fastest Turnaround

If you have ordered from us before, your pattern is on file. Repeat commissions — particularly for shirts, trousers or jackets in the same style — can be completed in three to five days. Each subsequent order gets faster and better as your pattern is refined over time.
