When clients visit our atelier on Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, they quickly discover that a fully bespoke suit here costs a fraction of what it would on Savile Row — without compromising on hand-cut patterns, hand-stitched canvassing or the quality of mills like Dormeuil, Scabal and Holland & Sherry. This guide breaks down exactly what you can expect to pay and why.
Bespoke Suit Price Ranges in Hong Kong
Entry-level bespoke (HKD 5,000–8,000 / USD 640–1,020) uses quality mid-range import wools. Construction is fully canvassed and the pattern is cut to your measurements — ideal for first-time clients. Mid-range bespoke (HKD 8,000–18,000) opens the door to renowned European mills — Super 120s and 150s wools from Vitale Barberis Canonico, Loro Piana and Reda. Premium bespoke (HKD 18,000–35,000+) puts Dormeuil Amadeus and Scabal Golden Bale in reach at prices 40–60% below comparable London commissions.
To put this in perspective: a first-class bespoke suit in Dormeuil Super 120s, fully canvassed with hand-stitched buttonholes and two fittings, can be commissioned at Manhattan Tailors for around HKD 14,000–18,000 — less than the cost of a Savile Row deposit alone.
What Drives the Price of a Bespoke Suit?
Fabric is the single biggest variable. A Super 100s wool might cost HKD 800 per metre; a Dormeuil Oro Bianco runs HKD 4,000+. A two-piece suit typically requires 3.0–3.5 metres, so fabric alone ranges from HKD 2,400 to HKD 14,000+. Our fabric collection spans over 3,000 choices across all price points.
Construction method also matters. Full-canvas construction — where a layer of horsehair canvas floats free between the outer shell and lining — takes three to four times longer than fused construction and produces a garment that drapes better and lasts decades. All Manhattan Tailors bespoke suits are fully canvassed. Number of fittings, hand-worked buttonholes, pick-stitching on lapels and personalised monogramming each add modest amounts to the final figure.
Hong Kong vs London vs New York Pricing
A comparable full-canvas bespoke suit at a top Savile Row house starts at GBP 4,500+ and can exceed GBP 15,000 for premium cloth. At a reputable New York bespoke tailor, entry price is USD 3,500–5,000. In Hong Kong, you receive the same hand-craftsmanship, the same European fabrics and often the same mills — at roughly one-third to one-half the cost. The lower overhead and labour costs of operating in Hong Kong are passed directly to the client.
Hidden Costs to Be Aware Of
Always ask whether the quoted price includes canvas, lining, buttons, fittings and alterations. At Manhattan Tailors, our quoted price always covers the complete suit — no surprise add-ons. Some tailors quote a low base price and charge separately for lining upgrades, working buttonholes or monogramming; clarify this upfront before committing.
If you are visiting Hong Kong as a tourist, factor in an extra day or two for fittings. Most bespoke suits require at least two fittings spread over five to ten days. Rush orders for completion in 48–72 hours are possible but may attract a surcharge of 15–25%.
Is a Bespoke Suit Worth the Investment?
A quality bespoke suit, properly cared for, will last 15–25 years. On a cost-per-wear basis, a HKD 12,000 suit worn 50 times per year for 15 years costs less than HKD 16 per wear. Off-the-rack suits at that price point rarely survive five years of regular use. When you add the confidence that comes from a suit made exactly for your body — correct sleeve pitch, chest suppression, trouser rise — the case for bespoke becomes very clear.
