Full Canvas vs Fused: The Savile Row Difference
The single greatest difference between a true bespoke suit and a made-to-measure garment is the interlining. Most suits sold today use a fused interlining -- a glued layer that holds its shape initially but degrades with dry cleaning and wear, eventually causing bubbling and separation visible on older suits.
A full canvas suit -- the standard on Savile Row and at Hong Kong Manhattan Tailors -- uses a floating chest piece of horsehair canvas, hand-stitched in place. This canvas gradually takes the shape of the wearer, producing the characteristic drape and fit that makes a bespoke suit recognisable at a distance. It improves with age rather than deteriorating.

- Holland and Sherry -- Scottish mill supplying Savile Row since 1836
- Dormeuil -- French heritage mill with 175 years of suiting excellence
- Vitale Barberis Canonico -- oldest active wool mill in Italy, established 1663
These are the same suppliers used by the houses on Savile Row. The difference is that our overheads in Hong Kong allow us to pass significant savings to the client.
We Come to You: International Trunk Shows
Not every client can travel to Hong Kong. For that reason, Hong Kong Manhattan Tailors conducts trunk shows throughout the year -- bringing our master craftsmen, fabric books, and full consultation service directly to clients in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, Austria, and Switzerland. Measurements are taken on location. Completed garments are shipped directly to the client within 3 to 5 weeks.
